Another universal principle that all multilevel marketing companies use is start out while your still working your full time J.O.B. Why is this so important? Because anyone in MLM knows that you don’t get in those vacation pictures the first day, week, or month you’re in the business. It’s a building process, and if you work it right, you will build it enough to eventually leave that other place.

It’s an exciting feeling, but multilevel marketing companies realize that and they want to make sure you can be involved without causing emotional and financial stress on your home life. If that happens’ you won’t be in their downline long, and that’s not the type of recruit your sponsor was looking for or business you were.

Then of course, many people today that are retiring are joining multilevel marketing companies to stay interacting with the rest of the world. Add the fact that no one wants to hear that they are about to start living off of social security and you’ve got plenty enough reason to get involved, which will make everyone’s home life happier.

These are probably the three biggest, but you can also create your own principles. Maybe you just want to meet new people outside of your click of friends. Some people wind up finding a love interest working for an MLM. It just depends on where you are in your life and where you want to be. A major, controversial issue for new network marketing companies is the future of these companies. Many network marketers like to join a company when it is a new, or start-up, company because they believe that they will enjoy bigger paychecks if they join early. However, these companies have three possible futures, and network marketers, with a little investigation, should be able to easily predict which future awaits any given company.

1. Out of business. Statistically speaking, about 90% of network marketing companies end up filing bankruptcy, and the dreams and hard work of early network marketers disappear with them. Companies bound for bankruptcy are easy to spot: usually, company leaders have no experience in the network marketing industry and its requirements for success. It is very simple to investigate nowadays anyone using the internet search engines; network marketers can simply go to www.google.com, and search the names of the founders and leaders of these companies. If they are unable to find any information about them then it is easy to conclude that those leaders are experimenting with their time and money. Seeking independent third party opinions is a must.

2. Transform to direct sales. Many of these companies start with a multilevel marketing plan because they lack the budget for national marketing. Those companies have the intention from the beginning to transform their structure from network marketing to direct sales after building their customer bases. Distributors are left, again, with their dreams in the air. These companies are also easily identified: their leadership has no network marketing experience and therefore no loyalty for the network marketing industry. While they actually state their intentions very obviously in their policies and procedures, naive network marketers usually join without thoroughly investigating the proclaimed opportunity they are joining. Those intentions are easily spotted simply by reading and analyzing cautiously the company policies and procedures. Most of the time, it is easy to spot obvious statements such as, “the company has the right to eliminate the compensation plan anytime.”

3. Prosperous, long-lasting companies. New companies can become worldwide companies. You can predict such a future for a company again by checking on the leadership and the founders of the company. Founders of such companies usually have extensive experience in the industry; they have been distributors themselves for most of their lives and are known to have a high level of integrity. Many of them are well known trainers in the industry. Obviously, the policies and procedures are very simple and straight forward without any hidden or suspicious statements.

Joining a new network marketing company may not be the ideal, but with some basic investigation of the leaders and by reading and analyzing the company policies and procedures before joining, network marketers can avoid years of failure and frustration.

The top network marketing companies are not always the best known. If you are considering getting into network marketing or MLM (multi-level marketing), don’t just go for the first opportunity that promises the earth. Here are 9 tips for evaluating your new business opportunity.

1. Avoid companies that ask you to pay a lot of money up front for marketing materials or products that you will not use. A feature of pyramid schemes is to ask you to pay simply to get a place in the matrix, without offering a genuine product or service. This is now illegal in most countries. Some companies try to get around the law by offering a low value product at a high cost. If it seems to you that nobody would pay the asking price for the product alone, then stay away.

2. Avoid plans that claim that you will make a lot of money through the expansion of your downline without you having to do any work. While it is true that you may earn something from several levels of your downline, a legitimate scheme does require you to do some work in sponsoring at least some of those people. You should also remember that the majority of people joining MLM programs drop out in less than 3 months without having sponsored anybody, so the idea of you recruiting 5 people who each recruit 5 people is simply not realistic. You will need good sponsoring skills and strong support from your company or upline to make any serious money from your downline.

3. Do your research on the company. How long has it been in business? If it is a start-up, who are the directors and have their other projects been successful?

4. Avoid ‘miracle products’ and remember that for every customer who says it cured their cancer, hair loss, etc, there may be 100 others who saw no benefit at all.

5. If the product seems genuine, does your local drugstore sell it or something like it? If so, is there a benefit for your customers in buying from you rather than their drugstore? And if the drugstore doesn’t sell it, why not?

6. If the product is something you could use yourself, ask if you can try it before making your decision. If not, ask if you can talk to people who have used the product to build up your understanding of its benefits. Most of us can only successfully sell something that we genuinely believe in.

7. Be cautious when you are shown testimonials from people who claim to earn huge sums through the plan. Even if true, those people may be founder members or have years of experience behind them. Realize that it would probably take you several years of hard work to get to their level.

8. Avoid paying or signing contracts at the first meeting. Insist on time to do your research and talk the matter over with your spouse, accountant, lawyer or someone you trust.

9. Remember that after you have found a company with a good product and a solid multi level marketing plan, some investment of time and money will be required to build a business even with the top network marketing companies.

b) A support system to help distributors to sell products and recruit members must be in place. There must be seminar or webinar where distributor can lead the prospects to find out more information.

4) Change in compensation plan too often

A new company in order to attract more distributors to join would do so by paying them a higher commission up front. This is perfectly fine if the company’s sale volume increased and the running cost can be averaged down.

Problem started when the sales volume does not match the company expectation. The company is not making enough profit to sustain their operation. The obvious thing for the company to do is lower their payout commission.

Enron was a publicly-traded company, subject to SEC rules and regulations … yet, they STILL cooked the books. Same for Worldcom. If you can’t really trust the information released in legal documents put out by publicly traded companies, how much stock can you put in the self-serving promotional statments put out by OTHER companies?

MLM companies, for instance, give out totally ridiculous numbers about sales and retention rates and the amounts being made by distributors. It’s a mistake to give any credence to what they say. No doubt some of them tell the truth. But many don’t. When a company quotes “retention rate,” there are a hundred different ways to figure retention rate. A company can just choose the method that gives the result they like best.

The only sane action for you is to choose a company based on results that YOU can see or that YOU can actually verify. When you dedicate your life to building your business with a company, you should actually interview a number of distributors with that company and ask about the work they do and the system they use and their actual earnings. You owe it to yourself to take any company-published promotion with a grain of salt.

You would never take a salaried job without knowing how much you’re going to be paid per hour or per week or per month. That would probably be your number 1 or number 2 question. That’s why it’s so surprising how many people start an MLM business without knowing the answer to that question. They know how much they WANT, but they usually have no idea what kind of production it will take to produce the income they want. It’s pretty easy to come up with the numbers, so there’s no reason not to do it.

If it’s $10,000 per month, you will need a certain sales volume in your business. Ask how much volume that takes. Let’s call that X.

Next, you need to find out what the average volume per current distributor is. Some people are on autoship, some people don’t order. What is the actual average monthly volume per distributor? Let’s call that Y.

Just divide X by Y to know how many people you need in your business to make the income you want. If you need 400 reps to achieve $10,000 a month, you can plan how to do that. If it takes 3,000 distributors to make $10,000 a month, then you’ll need a different plan. You’ve got to start out knowing how many reps you will need.
