Generally in society you can tie your pay to the value you are providing. The more value you add, the higher compensation you generally get (negotiation abilities aside).

Someone who is merely a sales person earning commission earns pay for the amount of product they are effectively able to move, the more they sell, the more they get paid.

Someone who organizes a business, risks their own capital, and runs it successfully reaps the value of all these components in profits.

A cashier who works on a low hourly wage offers their time in exchange for a job that is easily replaceable, requires little training and virtually no education, hence the low pay since the value is relatively low.

In all cases the value is directly related to the compensation

Now what about MLM. What possible value is there that an MLM offers if they are selling minimum amounts of product themselves? It the view that merely signing up others is valuable? If so, how sad.
To fend of the expected answer comparing MLMers to sales managers earning commissions overrides from their organization, let me point out the obvious:

Sales managers focus their time managing their sales staff who SELL enough value to earn an income.

Signing up people and showing them how to sell things and sign others up is in NO WAY the same thing. Only in the mind of the very heavily biased MLMers trying to justify their value, which evidently doesn’t exist (perhaps explaining the lack of respect the industry receives).

If you are in direct sales, it is extremely important that you grow a healthy downline. Not only are you building a relationship with your customers through sales, but you should build a healthy relationship with your sales team. Here are 7 tips to generating a strong downline and keeping your direct sales business growing every day.

TIP #1: GET PERSONAL Your downline wants to know who they are working so hard for. Send a monthly newsletter will sales tips, monthly numbers, top salesperson, etc. Offer a free forum or chat group to your team so everyone can share ideas and offer support to one another.

TIP #6: LOSE YOUR MIND Sometimes the silliest ideas are the ones that often get noticed in sales. If you’ve been playing it safe, get crazy with promoting your business. TIP #7: DON’T STOP It has been said many times that for every 9 “no’s” you get, you’ll get one “yes.” Don’t stop promoting recruits, regardless of how many “no’s” you’ve had this far. Eventually someone will say, “Yes!” Sometimes the squeakiest wheel is the one that gets oiled!

I’ve been working as a recruiter for a while, and although it’s fincially rewarding, I’m tired of the office “grind” and I don’t want to be in telephone sales or sales of any kind including any type of pyramid or MLM situation because I’m burned out. I would like to learn a skill and have a legitimate career (such as desktop publishing, art, fitness and personal training, etc). that doesn’t take years and years to learn. I have done some research but haven’t quite found anything that is a good fit. Can anyone share with me their own experiences and offer me some suggestions? Thanks!
